Fatal blast hits Bangkok protest

Abuse of power?
The PAD has proved a remarkably resilient movement, says the BBC's Jonathan Head in Bangkok, forcing the resignation of a prime minister and two cabinet ministers, and nearly provoking a military coup.
While the protesters have been targeted by small bomb attacks in recent weeks, the latest explosion could herald the start of more aggressive efforts to dislodge them, our correspondent adds.
An alliance of conservative and staunchly royalist academics buy wow gold, activists and business people, the PAD accuses Mr Somchai and his recently-ousted predecessor, Samak Sundaravej, of simply being proxies for Thaksin.
The PAD wants to replace Thailand's one-man, one-vote system with one in which some representatives are chosen by professions and social groups rather than the general electorate.
Thaksin, Mr Somchai's brother-in-law, was forced from office in a military coup in 2006 and remains in exile overseas.
The new government says it wants to start negotiations with the PAD. But it is also pushing ahead with controversial plans to amend the constitution - a key grievance of the protesters who see it as part of a plan to rehabilitate Thaksin.
It accuses him of corruption and abuse of power while he was in office, and has suggested he and his allies have a hidden republican agenda - a serious charge at a time when the country is beset by anxiety over the future of the monarchy.
Thaksin was last month convicted in absentia of violating conflict of interest rules, and still faces several other charges.

The pre-dawn blast rocked an area where demonstrators had set up camp in the city's Government House compound.
Protesters from the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) group have occupied the area since late August.
They are demanding world of warcraft gold the resignation of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat's government, saying it is too close to ousted former PM Thaksin Shinawatra.
The demonstrators said a grenade had exploded near the main stage of their protest site at about 0330 (2030 GMT Wednesday).
The protests have seen some of the worst street violence since pro-democracy activists challenged Thailand's army in 1992.

England suffer Walcott withdrawal

Walcott was taken to hospital where the shoulder was put back into place.
A decision will be taken on Wednesday morning over when the 19-year-old will fly back to England.
"Our priority is Theo and making him as comfortable as possible before he returns home," said England manager Fabio Capello.
"We are all very disappointed but the important thing is for Theo to travel home and make a quick recovery."
Capello handed Walcott his first competitive start for England in September's guildwars gold World Cup qualifier against Andorra.
He then scored a hat-trick in Croatia and also started against Kazakhstan and Belarus.
The injury is a blow to Capello, who is already without Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Rio Ferdinand wow money, Wes Brown, Joe Cole, Ashley Cole, Emile Heskey and Joe Hart, but it is even worse news for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
Walcott has been a regular for the Gunners this season and, having seen his team collect just four points from their last four league games, Wenger must do without one of his most potent attacking players.
Last season the Derby midfielder Stephen Pearson was ruled out for a month after suffering the same injury.
Even if Walcott equalled that timescale cheap wow gold, he would miss four league games and the rest of Arsenal's Champions League group campaign.
Walcott missed the end of the 2006-07 season after undergoing surgery to repair a problem with his left shoulder, which he also injured during Arsenal's defeat by Stoke this season.
"During tonight's training session Theo Walcott dislocated his right shoulder after falling on the pitch," said an FA statement.
"Arsenal's medical staff were advised of the injury soon after the incident."
Speaking on Tuesday prior to learning of Walcott's injury lord of the rings online gold, Wenger expressed his displeasure at the timing of the international break.
"It is particularly not welcome at the moment because it is at a period where you want your players to recover a little bit," he told the Arsenal website.
"I don't see what you gain from this friendly because there is no game. You can explain a friendly to prepare for an official match but after this there is no international game for four months."
Capello, who wow gold cheap can now call upon just four of his likely first-choice line-up, is not angry with the clubs whose players pulled out before the trip to Germany, according to the Football Association.
The FA's Adrian Bevington told BBC Radio 5 Live that Capello "didn't seem to be fuming" and there was "no dispute" over the withdrawals.

Fulham's Jimmy Bullard and Scott Parker of West Ham have been added to the squad as replacements for Gerrard and Lampard.
Captain John Terry, who was struggling with a foot injury, has declared himself fit.
Former skipper David Beckham, who is one cap away from equalling Bobby Moore's tally of 108 caps, has been left out of the squad.
Beckham has not played since Los Angeles Galaxy's season finished on 26 October after they failed to make the Major League Soccer play-offs.
Despite the injuries to Heskey and Rooney, Capello opted not to recall striker Michael Owen, who scored for Newcastle in their draw with Wigan on Saturday.
Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne - currently on loan at Wolves - was a surprise inclusion in Capello's squad.
Mancienne, who is yet to play for the Chelsea first team, joins uncapped Aston Villa duo Curtis Davies, 23 and Gabriel Agbonlahor, 22, in a youthful England setup.
Germany, meanwhile, are set to hand starts to midfielders Jermaine Jones and Simon Rolfes, in the absence of Michael Ballack and Torsten Frings.
Chelsea's Ballack misses out after having a foot operation, while Frings has been left out to give younger players experience.
Germany have four uncapped players in their squad, in goalkeeper Tim Wiese, defenders Marvin Compper and Marcel Schaefer and midfielder Tobias Weis.
Coach Joachim Low said: "I don't know how it will work yet but I want to give a chance to some or all of them. They're not in the squad by accident."

With the widespread popularity of gaming today, playing with family members world of warcraft gold has become commonplace. World of Warcraft hits 11 million subscribers worldwide

We should expect to see the 12 million landmark sometime in 2009। WoW had hit 9 million subscribers back in July of 2007. Like we said, 10 million subscribers was reached in January of 2008. It took a little longer to grow from 10 to 11 than it did to get from 9 to 10, but if they keep up this rate, we should see the 12 million announcement around February or March.

Even in the middle of zombies, nerfs, wow gold cheap and Death Knights, World of Warcraft has continued to grow। Blizzard announced today that World of Warcraft has achieved 11 million subscribers. To help with perspective, that is as many people as had been employed by the construction industry last year, or just slightly under the population of Greece.

When WoW hit 10 million back in January, Blizzard acknowledged how big the holiday season had been for them. Now consider that we are going into a new holiday season with a brand new expansion on the way. Even if other games are looking to get a piece of the action, we should expect Blizzard to keep steamrolling with their great success. Word of mouth from the recent zombie event might be exciting older players to return, cheap wow gold and programs like Recruit-a-Friend will keep growing their active base.

The New Natural Wonders of the World

The most remote of the eight new wonders is Socotra Archipelago in Yemen, known to some as the “Galapagos of the Indian Ocean।” Currently, 75 percent of the region in and around Socotra is part of a natural sanctuary on account of the diverse species that have made the area home. Ninety percent of the reptiles in Socotra can be found nowhere else in the world, while about 40 percent of its plant species are unique to the region. Yemeni ecotourism outfits as well as environmental organizations have been organizing sustainable tourism in Socotra for the past few years. Its inclusion on UNESCO's list brings with it a higher profile, but its remote location all but guarantees that it will remain pristine for a long time to come.

Native Australian David Sheppard summons the oft-quoted backpacker’s mantra, “take only photographs, leave only footprints,” as he reflects on the fragility — and relatively newfound fame — of the eight natural wonders recently added to the UNESCO World Heritage List। “Natural World Heritage sites represent the best of what nature has to offer,” says Sheppard, Head of the Protected Areas Program for the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the organization which recommended the sites.

Being added to the World Heritage List of 174 natural sites is, in a sense, a Catch-22: Global recognition will inevitably draw curious visitors just as it has to Yellowstone, Kilimanjaro, the Galapagos, and Australia’s Great Barrier Reef. And yet ultimately, it is the encroaching world of human development that the UNESCO designation is meant to guard against.

For example, of the newly added Joggins Fossil Cliffs in Canada, Paul Maille from Connecticut tour operator Tauck World Discovery, says that “the UNESCO designation definitely increases Joggins’ profile, and we’ll now be considering the site for our itineraries in 2010 and beyond।” Frequently called “the Coal Age Galapagos,” the series of rocks and cliffs in Eastern Canada bear fossils of reptiles and preserved upright fossil trees from the Coal Age 300 million years ago. In preparation for increased tourism, the Joggins Fossil Centre opened in May.

Chosen by a committee of the United Nations’ Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), World Heritage sites denote natural and cultural areas recognized for their universal value to humanity. The selection process involves extensive field work by conservation experts who have, in most cases, dedicated their lives to studying the natural world. Therefore, says Sheppard, “It is important to travel in a respectful and low impact manner. We would like tourists to tread lightly when visiting these important natural phenomena.”

Though it is popular with local Chinese, Mount Sanqingshan National Park in the Jiangxi Province of Eastern China is currently virtually unknown to foreigners. But the park boasts suspended walking trails from which hikers can gaze upon the incredibly unique formations of granite rock and highly diverse tree populations in its forest, thereby preventing a high impact from foot traffic and keeping travelers in safe, designated areas.
Michael Brombacher, Project Coordinator for the Association for the Conservation of Biodiversity in Kazakhstan, says, “The nomination of Saryarka was meant to protect the site। Nobody in the country thought of tourism [as an outcome].” In northern Kazakhstan, Saryarka comprises over 500,000 acres of wetlands that as many as 16 million threatened birds use as a resting point in their migration cycle. The open savannah and lakes offer a protected nursery for thousands of waterfowl that nest here en route from Africa, Europe and southern Asia to Siberia. The endangered saiga antelope also lives in Saryarka.

Regardless of the nomination's intent, tourism will certainly come and when it does, the IUCN will be actively monitoring it। Keeping watch over future numbers at the UNESCO sites is part of IUCN’s role, notes Sheppard, who says revealing the sites responsibly to inquisitive, educated travelers is one of the best ways to preserve them. Ultimately, he says, the relationship between the UNESCO natural wonders and those who visit them is a symbiotic one. “We ask that people do their homework before visiting,” says Sheppard. “This way, they can truly appreciate the beauty of these eight wonders.”

Speaking of beauty, the Lagoons of New Caledonia could easily figure in the final scene of a James Bond movie. Imagine 007 luxuriating in the arms of an exotic diva with the turquoise waters and powdery sands of the lagoons in the background. First impressions aside, it is the highly diverse coral reef ecosystems of these lagoons — an overseas territory of France located in the Pacific Ocean east of Australia — that helped them achieve the recognition and protection of UNESCO status। Some scientists believe that the coral reefs and fish life here actually surpass numbers found in the much larger Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

The island of Surtsey was formed by volcanic eruptions in the 1960s and is part of a cluster of islands known as the Westmen Isles, scattered off the southern coast of Iceland। Surtsey is cherished by scientists who are fascinated by the colonization patterns of new varieties of plants and animals that have settled there. While the entire island is a preserve and no human contact with any part of it is allowed, people can see Surtsey from neighboring isles.
